@hagertymedia: The sound of the fastest car in the world. After what seems like an eternity of waiting, the SSC Tuatara is finally starting to pop up around the country, with customers bringing their very own 1,750 horsepower spaceships out for the rest of us to see. If you're not familiar, SSC first came on the scene in the late 2000s with their Ultimate Aero model. A car formed seemingly out of nowhere, designed to take the top speed crown from the Bugatti Veyron. While it did achieve its target, Bugatti didn't let it stand for long, one-upping the Ultimate Aero with the Veyron Super Sport. Their second model, the Tuatara, was meant to take the title back once and for all. Unfortunately it was met with years of delays, and then was mired in controversy at its first top speed run after it was discovered that their claimed 316 mph achievement wasn't 100% accurate. Hell bent on redemption, SSC brought the car back out for one more attempt, this time accompanied by independent testers from Racelogic, and actually did it. The Tuatara hit a two-way average speed of 282.9 mph. While there have been a few cars that have hit higher speeds than that, at this point no others have achieved a higher two-way, independently verified speed. Sometimes good things are worth waiting for.
