Here’s a top ten for you, (in no particular order) Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Ritchie Blackmore, Tony Iommi, Eddie Van Halen, David Gilmour, Gary Moore, Michael Schenker. Hon mentions: Brian May, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Uli Roth, Steve Vai and Joe Satriani

Disagree on Duane Allman, he definitely belongs in the top ten, greatest slide guitarist ever and could play straight lead like a crazy. Died at only 24 but was also a top session man, think Layla and Assorted Love songs and his work on Hey Jude by Wilson Picket. You only have to listen to Live at the Fillmore, perhaps the greatest live album and brilliant guitar based album ever. Like you I love Mark Knopler

This sounds more like a top 10 influential guitarists even then is questionable rather than the best

I don’t trust any list without Eric Clapton ! Just my opinion but yardbirds he was incredible! Beano album! Cream! Blind Faith ! Derek and the dominoes ! BB king collabs scorcese blues documentary! Solo work ! The guitar on while my guitar gently weeps ! Played on everything from Aretha to Buddy Guy Muddy waters Beck winwood the band John Lennon Harrison ! Was doing things on a guitar nobody could touch in the 60s and page isn’t close ! Hendrix was great but my opinion is Clapton never missed a note he’s changed his style and approach and reinvented himself time and time again ! No one else has done what he has for the guitar fact
