The reason why most post soviet countries speak russian is that soviet forced them to. Thousands if not millions were killed or been send to prison for speaking their language and spreading their culture. Also soviet propaganda was making native language look like commoner's language and russian is the language of the elite.

russian is a language people hear when being killed. russian is a language people hear when being tortured. russian is a language people hear when being humiliated. for years russian regime tried to erase other languages. so why do we need to praise it now? language matters. especially in this case.

The gasp I gasped at the “you speak russian comment”. Miss ma’am millions have been killed and ethnically cleansed, my great frandma was sent to prison and offed herself afterwards, post-Soviet people speaking russian is a direct result of hundreds of years of oppression.

Russian indicates the Russian in you, as well as their culture. I hope that the Kartvelians (Guzins) will resume communication in their native language, and not the one imposed by the occupiers. I can say the same about the Ukrainians
