A4: 297/210 = 1.41428 A3: 420/297 = 1.41414 It's not the same

for sure the ratio will be the same, because you are simply doubling

I understand. but I don't get it. whatever you double the ratio stays the same. so what the square is he trying to explain.

A4 paper originated from a 1922 German standard called DIN 476, which was based on the idea of a paper size with an aspect ratio of \(1:\sqrt{2}\). This standard was adopted internationally by the ISO in 1975 and became the global standard, with smaller sizes consistently created by halving the larger ones. The concept of the \(1:\sqrt{2}\) ratio dates back even further to a 1786 proposal by German scientist Georg Christoph Lichtenberg.

You’re reversing calculation. I believe what the early inventor of paper uses 1 meter square and reduce to practical used….so folding once is A1 then fold again we get A2 further division gets A3 and folding A4 and further division gets A5…,.and nothing incredible about it🥰🥰🥰

It can be any size. If humans say 300/200 is A4 then it will be A4. Nothing special 😜

A0 is 1 m2 and you just halve it each time to get A4 with that dimensions This is only reason

so Ax is the number of folds. A0 zero folds, A1 one fold... 🤔

“If you use any other numbers, it just doesn’t work” - that is incorrect. You can use any multiple of 99/70 to get the same effect. And you can even get more efficient doubling with multiples of 239/169, 577/408, or 1393/985. It’s easy to show that larger integer ratios can be found that are closer to sqrt(2) and work even better than the 297/210 ratio used for A4 paper.
