I really do wish people would learn to appreciate complex female characters but alas, not gonna happen anytime soon

people don't understand that not showing something does not equal ambiguity

I was so excited for this movie and then all the negative reviews made me not want to see it. You have bought me back around!

People 100% hate complex female characters. Yet, they will always say they want complex female characters 🙃

I respect the intention behind the film. However, the execution was mediocre. That’s me being generous

Loved the quote: “It’s always the adults job to protect the innocence of a child.” Cos sadly a lot of people forget that.

this movie really resists easy moralizing, and that's my favorite part, on the point that there's no such thing as a perfect reaction (or victim)

I'm pretty sure that everyone who said that they want complex female characters is either a hypocrite, sexist, or both. Just let female characters be themselves.

I think disliking it for its alienating presentation is anti intellectual. Yes, all of the characters are talking circles around each other, saying "nothing" and that's part of the point. Everyone being a philosophy or psych grad is a very specific choice and I thought a great way to underline how "polite society" has and would react to a situation like this

I wish they got the broad strokes of academic philosophy a little better :/ the idea that Yale philosophy would be full of a bunch of continental philosophers shows how little they know about the field

My biggest problem was the writing. Especially thought the dialogue was incredibly uninteresting and at times didn't flow naturally. I'm talking about even like the casual conversations within this. I really wanted to like it. The ideas behind it were good and themes it wanted to communicate. I wasn't a fan of the execution though.

Oh please 🙄 I’m glad you got that out of this movie but, no. The glaring problem I had with the movie was that all of the conflicts between the characters and their actions existed in an ambiguous area where we the audience are never given a definitive explanation or clear resolution. Too much is left open to interpretation, and it undermines any messages it’s trying to convey.

He issue with the movie is the characters are more caricature than charters none of them feel like real people but just archetypes plus I think the dialog didn’t help either
