There’s absolutely more representation for south Indian women outside of India, then there are other ethnicities. In fact they think all Indians look like South Indians when there are Nepali, Assamese and so many “non Indian” looking people.

South Indian woman are not under represented - Deepika Pauline, Aishwarya Rai , Hema Nalini, Rekha , vyjanti mala, anushka Shetty shilpa Shetty , Rashmika Mandanna . There are many South Indians but if u saying dark skin girls which can be in north south east west then you are right ! South Indian girls are not under represented dark skinned ppl are under represented though

Honestly I feel like it used to be that way but now if you look at Western media it’s only darker skinned Indian women. And they’re beautiful! But just pointing out that I think in the Western world it’s the opposite way now, Bollywood is still lightskins but Hollywood is def not. Don’t flame me for this but people don’t even think I’m Indian these days bc I’m lighter toned and the only Hollywood representation we have are darker tones

wait but I feel like there’s more rep for south indians outside of india tho. ppl in the western world only depict indians as south indians which obviously isn’t bad but they tend to only have one image of indians and how they should look despite how diverse India is

l agree with you but north indians also have darker skin color, to say that south indians only have dark skin is untrue as i’ve also been through colorism. i love the representation that ive been seeing for south indian women in hollywood so i don’t really know what you mean by “you haven’t seen any” its definitely not enough but we’re getting there.

I’m an Indian yoga teacher in the US and girl - no one looks like me. And it’s extremely hard to represent with authenticity.

As a Muslim desi woman I FEEL this!! You make desi content you get torn down, you don’t you get called a coconut. You never win. I thought that aunty mentality would end with us…sadly not.

As long as I agree with your point. Darker skinned south asians are definitely more represented in western medias. In the west there is no place for ambiguous looking people. If you’re too fair they’ll make u play an Arab or a latino
