It’s absolutely maddening. My ex husband projects everything he does onto me, and has successfully alienated me from a lot of people. It’s been 2 years and I still feel crazy. It’s so sickening knowing that so many people believe his lies.

The really tricky ones do this in a very subtle but effective manner. Rather than tell lies about you, they’ll ask biased questions. For example, rather than telling somebody you’re a liar, they’ll ask them if they’ve ever caught you lying to them. They won’t tell someone to think you’re mentally unstable, they’ll ask them if they’ve noticed you acting in a mentally unstable way lately. They plant the seeds of doubt, without ever saying anything outright, so they can’t be caught lying about you. It’s very subtle but effective subterfuge.
