@investordna: Replying to @Lady Diana 🇨🇦 Apparently, love has a tax benefit. The math says couples win. The tax code agrees. Being single in retirement can feel like a disadvantage. Is it fair? #RetirementPlanning #CanadianRetirement #FinancialPlanner #CPP #TaxPlanning
It’s more expensive to be single, your whole life, not just in retirement.

It is said that Julius Caesar borrowed so much money to become elected pontifex maximus that he essentially forced his creditors to support his political ambitions in the hope of seeing some payment on the debts.✨✨✨

The 56000$ doesn’t include CPP and OAS right? The difference between single and in a couple is ridiculous. People living alone should get more not the other way around.

Thank you, Riley always informative. I sure would like to know about the 60% that are short on retirement and don’t have $1 million. It seems like all the examples or you have to have $1 million. What if you don’t what if you’re an average Canadian with $130,000 or $300,000will they ever retire?

The biggest tip I got from this video was one I seriously overlooked, income splitting. I included two Cpp and OAS incomes, but never thought about the reduced taxes on split income. That makes our retirement cheaper than I thought by a bit.

This was so helpful thank you, as someone single trying to plan for retirement proactively, simulations like this are amazing motivation to save my money. With a finite amount of disposable income, it can be so hard to be proactive for retirement (single living genuinely is much more expensive across the board) but this makes me realize I likely need to be saving more than I planned/traditional advice that assumes partnership.

more people need to be angry about the difference in income split taxes vs not. No one cares though.

True for couples. My hubby who is in a higher tax bracket benefits from the pension income splitting as I’m on the lower tax bracket

single seniors for tax fairness ... what about all of the rebates singles get while working? I haven't received a GST (or in Ontario Trillium) rebate since 19 years old (when I moved in with my partner) just saying 🤭
