You have to balance. Tbh at 30 you only have maybe 5 years left max before most/all your friends are married with kids and life is over..

It’s a mix of both-I traveled SE Asia, Europe and lived abroad while starting 3 businesses and becoming a lawyer between 22-27

Bad take, when people say they throw away their 20s it doesn’t mean at 30 it all goes to shit. At 29 you might feel the same as 19 but in 5 years that might not be the case. The whole point is you have 5 years to enjoy rather than 15

There is a world of difference between “enjoying your 20s” and backpacking across continents for years and getting your first real job at 28. There is a golden mean somewhere in that vast gulf

The way I see it, is that I do nothing but work, so might as well focus it ALL on work. My 20s have been nothing but boring. At least when I hit 30 I will be set up.

I agree. It’s all about balance. I think a lot of people see this topic as an all or nothing thing when it’s not

I was in the military for all of my late teens-early 20s, so I will not get back into the workforce until I’m at least 30. Finishing undergrad atm and will get my JD but I will be behind compared to ppl my age BUT we all go at our own pace

The carpe diem mindset of a lot of younger people is so strange bc not only have they not lived past their 20s and have no idea whether or not they’re gonna regret not spending it all traveling and enjoying things, but it is all done with the mindset that you’re gonna be looking back in time living in regret wishing for better days. This shouldn’t be the default, you should want things to progress where your always enjoying life and not just living in the past sometime in the future. It’s very shortsighted and based entirely on a narrative found in pop culture. Sure no one on their deathbed says “I wish I worked more” but how many people say “I wish I spent more time backpacking in SE Asia”.
