Now, someone close to Clarkson says the public confrontation was completely out of character. “If she’s actually calling out a store publicly, she must’ve been livid,” the insider told Page Six, adding that Clarkson is usually approachable, respectful, and one of the nicest people around. But the dispute has become more complicated as both sides stand by their accounts. Clarkson claimed an employee offered to find her something comparable after she asked about a mechanical singing bird. She later insisted that the bird had a price tag and accused the employee of speaking to her in a condescending way. The store told a different story. Art of Play said the original bird, named Molly, was permanently attached to the wall and not for sale. Staff claimed they explained that the artist owned a nearly identical version available for $15,000 and offered to show Clarkson another bird priced around $2,000. The shop says Clarkson left before seeing the alternative. It has since reached out to her in hopes of resolving the disagreement. Clarkson has not publicly responded to the store's latest statement.
