I posted a picture on my story yesterday, and a few people asked me who he was, that really threw me off. That honestly led me to create this drawing. If even one person learns something new through it, I’ll be glad. It’s sad to see how many of us have become disconnected from our own history. We’ve forgotten it and neglected the people whose sacrifices shaped the lives we live today. I often think about how many people who lived through the conflict could have had ordinary lives just like we do today. Instead, they were caught in war and made decisions that changed countless lives forever. What saddens me most is how little interest there is in learning our own history. I often hear 🙄My parents never taught me about this. But is that really an excuse? We live in a time where information is only seconds away. If you don’t know your history, you have the opportunity and responsibility to learn it yourself. July 5 is widely commemorated by Eelam Tamil communities as “Black Tigers Day,” marking the first suicide operation carried out by Captain Miller (Vallipuram Vasanthan) in 1987 during the Sri Lankan civil war at Nelliady.
