When they have worked themselves in between the squadrons of cavalry, they leap from their chariots and fight on foot. Meanwhile the charioteers withdraw a little distance from the battle and so place the chariots that, if their men are hard pressed by the enemy, they have an easy means of retreat to their own troops.
