some people say shimmer some people say dolls but I think it could be a third option. what about the tree? mel and Caitlyn were both from piltover and didn't face any arcane pollution. the tree was showing these patterns on its leaves because of the ventilation and run off from the hexgate flowing into zaun. all those who grew up in zaun have patterns. I think they were getting polluted over time like the tree

Guys it has nothing to do with shimmer, it’s the dolls. All the other characters are being held by Viktor’s porcelain dolls except for Mel and Caitlyn. Even think back to Ekko, who didn’t quite have tentacles on his face yet but was being held by the dolls and so he had patterns on his face.

It could be an artistic choice since both Mel and Cait had something going on under their eyes. Mel has magic patterns and Cait is bleeding profusely.

Usually the parts that appear like these golden patterns are impurities that are being „fixed“ by victor (shown earlier with huck and his scars) which must imply that everyone that has these got some kind of pollution, scar, illness, infection, whatsoever. Since cait and mel are richt topsiders they most likely wont have that

They weren’t actively being touched by the mannequin things, I think that’s why. Everyone else who got marks was being touched (Jinx and Vi were touched by Vander instead)
