Just opened the comments already knowing that people would be minimizing this analysis about this aspect of Japanese society and refute its refute it’s claims or talk the complete opposite, and I was right unfortunately, all for the sake of romanticizing Japan and hating their own place, whatever political, social or cultural

American in Japan since 1997: My biggest culture shock, I'm racking my brains. Everything was more average human than I expected, there were some foods I never heard of such as takoyaki, ... got it! I needed a separate pair of shoes for indoors, which had never been outdoors; that was the big one.
