It’s very common to be rejected by your family if you are emotionally intelligent because it shines a light on their deficiencies. Just had in-laws visit and I was like “are all families this dysfunctional?” My son was like, “no, it’s white people” 😩

This is so…..validating. And sad. Autistics are often told that we don’t do emotions “correctly”. But my lived experience is that I am often better at seeing the “balloons” and what ppl dislike is that I call out what they don’t want to acknowledge

Can confirm. I’m 40 and regularly feel like the anxious kid in the cafeteria who doesn’t know where to sit. All of my defense mechanisms take me back to right around 12/13. 😭😭 hoping to break this cycle for my sweet babies!

Patriarchal authoritarian culture requires suppressed emotion to be oppressive. Emotional intelligence is developed only in community, and individualism doesn’t allow for the same degree of growth.
