I feel like a custom shoe company that caters to professionals could easily make a slightly more retail friendly semi-custom shoe (like options for a half-shank or hybrid shank that you could order in specific increments, so the egdes could be tapered and not just a sharp edge that could rub. There are certain things I see every ballerina do to shoes that makes me wonder why ballet shoes haven't advanced much in over 100 years (like rough up the bottom with a wire brush... at that point why not tey different materials?).
