it depends how long the vacation is… i think if it’s a 3- week vacation and you have a general idea of what you’ll be doing each day (how many tours, how many beach days, activity days, etc) then it’s easy because you need a dinner outfit for each day and an outfit for whatever you’re doing each day. i find that it helps me but anytime i traveled longer than 3 weeks i overpacked big time because this logic doesn’t work

for a weekend trip I bring WAY too much it’s terrible I’m the furthest from a light packer but for a LONG trip it’s a mix and match deal
