🚨 SUPER CHANGES FROM 1 JULY 2026 🚨 There’s a lot of misinformation online right now, especially around ABN holders and contractors. Many people are saying: ❌ "Super is becoming mandatory for all ABN holders from 1 July." That’s not actually what’s happening. For years, some ABN contractors have already been entitled to employer-paid super under existing laws. The rule has never been based on whether you have an ABN. The real test is whether a business is paying primarily for your labour and personal services. Generally, a contractor / ABN holder may already have been entitled to super if: ✅ They were paid mainly for their labour and skills ✅ They personally performed the work ✅ They couldn't simply send someone else to do the job ✅ The contract was for their time and expertise rather than supplying significant materials or delivering a specific result Examples can include some labour hire workers, consultants, IT contractors, personal trainers, tutors, and tradespeople working under labour-only arrangements. This means many contractors with an ABN may have already been entitled to super for years. 👉 So what used to happen? Before 1 July 2026, employers generally only had to pay super quarterly. That meant you could receive wages every week or fortnight, but your super might not be paid into your fund until months later. 👉 What's changing from 1 July 2026? The change is called Payday Super. Instead of paying super quarterly, employers will generally need to pay super at the same time as wages are paid. ✅ The eligibility rules are largely the same. ✅ Contractor super rules are largely the same. ✅ Existing super obligations remain. ❗The major change is WHEN super is paid, not WHO qualifies. The goal is to: • Reduce unpaid super • Make super easier to track • Help workers receive contributions sooner • Improve retirement outcomes through earlier investment and compounding So if you've seen posts saying "all ABN holders now get super from 1 July", that's not entirely accurate. Many eligible ABN contractors were already supposed to receive super under the existing rules. The new reform mainly changes the timing of payments, moving from quarterly contributions to payday contributions. ⚠️ Disclaimer: This video is intended for general educational and informational purposes only and does not constitute tax, accounting, financial, employment, legal, migration, or immigration advice.
