@60minutes: Dr. Peter Attia says it’s “almost criminal negligence” that most women don’t receive a DEXA scan until age 65. The test measures bone density, muscle mass, and body fat — key indicators of long-term health. His practice, which he calls “Medicine 3.0,” is driven by the patient and focused on prevention. “We're dying of heart disease, we're dying from stroke, cancer, dementia, Type 2 diabetes, and we I think have sort of come to realize that, ‘Hey, the playbook of Medicine 2.0, which is treat a disease when a disease is present,’ doesn't seem to work as well,” he says. “And so the first principle of Medicine 3.0 is you have to take a much longer arc on the prevention of chronic disease.” #attia #dexascan #longevity #outlive

Sounds great, now decouple healthcare from our jobs like every other country so we’re not slaves to CEO profits

What specialty did he practice before becoming a public figure? He didn’t finish his residency so he’s not board certified in any field of medicine.

The point he’s making is that we need to shift the paradigm. Insurance should cover preventive scans. Use science to truly keep us healthy, not fix us. But we have to completely rebuild our healthcare system to do this.

This is common scene to anyone who takes a minute (everyone’s so busy working we don’t focus on health until we have that awful diagnosis) to think about their health and how to be proactive with it instead of reactive with it

I had a DEXA scan after going into early menopause, and it changed the way I treat my body and live my daily life, all for the better. Knowledge is power when it comes to our bodies.

This is the future of healthcare. Proactive scanning and surveillance even if just through blood marker testing.

Yes prevention is great but medicine exists for treatment. People don’t go to the cardiologists when they are healthy

COACH (in the UP) :
it's funny to think the average person has $300 for a voluntary scan--and not every hospital has one--let alone$3000 for a full MRI.

agreed criminal negligence. I wish I could get a scan to be proactive for gene mutation brac 2 positive. I can't afford it, and there is no real test?? for seeing if I will develop cancer of my ovaries like my mother
