Whether he loved Lily romantically or platonically, his love was genuine that it transcends through every bounds of his decisions and sacrifices, because Lily showed him what love is like, it's her own magic. While they may have fallen apart due to certain events he never stopped caring for her, yes, Lily isn't perfect either as some painted her to be because people are capable of terrible mistakes and decisions and to that, the two never reconciled properly when they were alive. In my opinion, Snape acted his dislike toward Harry not because he looked like James, but, he could be blaming himself that he could've done something to prevent the loss of the boy's parents that inherently directed his actions when he joined the other side and became a double agent (doesn't excuse the biases tho). Ofc his actions toward his students are unacceptable, he's a terror, and if I were his student, I'd be frustrated by his treatment but it might push me to learn (just out of spite lol) but Harry is the mirror of his redemption in some way. Lily was his beginning and Harry was his end.
