What about instead of an awning do a suspended sign. So brackets coming out from the building and the sign handing on chains from the brackets

The awning is such a good idea! You could even put some lights in it'll look more cozy in dim lighting or the dark. If you want to decorate the sides, maybe consider hedges? Also love the coastal vibes!!
