She (along with a few other old Hollywood stars) have been my special interest for years (not the place to get into it but all the wierd and false conspiracies about her buzzing around in the comments are driving me nuts). I’ve somehow never heard of this and because I’m so attached to her story and knowing of her support of the civil rights movement among many other progressive beliefs I want to believe that with more information and the disillusion of the Israeli propaganda we’ve been forced to fed over the last 70+ years she’d have shifted opinions, but as she’s not alive that’s not something we can ever actually know. My cognitive dissonance is definitely messing with me rn but it’s something I’m just going to have to reflect on and deal with. I do understand calling out living celebrities as they can be pressured to speak out. I struggle a little with celebrities who’ve been gone for years and probably never had the opportunity to truly learn what Israel was doing because of how strong the propaganda was, but I believe the video was simply meant to educate on just how deeply the propaganda ran. But I wish the comments understood that too. The internet is so bloodthirsty to “cancel” people and say they “always had a bad feeling about them” and, the discussion we could have about the nuances of Monroe’s behavior and beliefs really doesn’t feel relevant. I feel like a lot of y’all (not the op in any way) are using the Palestinians as an excuse just to feel self righteous without actually doing something for them. This is disappointing but you’re fighting over the beliefs of a woman that’s been dead for 60+ years, meanwhile Israel is unsurprisingly violating the ceasefire agreement and continuing to kill Palestinians, and just legalized the death penalty for the Palestinian people they’ve kidnapped and thrown in prisons. That’s what we need to talk about.
