@the.finance.engineer: “Renting is a waste of money” 🤦♂️ But that’s not always true. Here’s a scenario using real world data: In 1994, two people started with the same $30,000. One used it as a down payment on a ~$130,000 home with an 8% mortgage. The other rented a place for ~$825 a month and invested the same $30,000 in the stock market — plus about $250 a month from the money they saved on homeownership costs like property taxes, maintenance, and insurance. Thirty years later, the homeowner’s house is worth about $450,000 (before inflation). The renter’s investments? About $440,000. Wtf? How? The power of compound interest and consistent investing. They both built wealth — just in different ways. Renting isn’t always a waste of money if you actually invest what you save from owning costs. The goal isn’t to rent forever — it’s to make choices that grow your wealth until buying a home makes sense for you, both financially and emotionally. Because owning a home isn’t the finish line — financial freedom is. #PersonalFinance #investing #realestate #rentvsbuy #wealthbuilding #financialfreedom

These comparisons never consider like properties. There is no way you are renting the exact same property as there person in buying for the same price, it is almost always more expensive to rent the same place

What are you gonna do with that $440K? You just invested the "extra" but what about all the money you spent renting. Just put it in someone elses pocket. The person who bought a house at least has an asset.

Yea like u said in reality people who rent end up spending the extra money instead of investing while when homeowners sell they get all the equity to make moves with

Now the guy who owns his house can use it as leverage on investments. you meanwhile need to use your money to buy a house still and have nothing left for investments

so this isn't true for anywhere anymore. rent in Canada is minimum 1200$ for a 1 bedroom and owning a house is actually only around 900-1000$ per month. so home owning is always better.

it's not fair because, you don't calculate all the cost, how much money is put or spend and how much valuation after the 30year end. but i do get what you getting at
