While this is one example, the main point here is never rely entirely on new kernel upgrade without having a backup kernel, in case the new one has bugs, depending on various factors.

this is a non-issue these days. unless you're using decades old hardware, you generally dont have to worry about dropped hardware support. worst case scenario is usually just a missing/misconfigured wlan driver. but its fairly easy to roll back a kernal, even if its not locally present
