Khi tôi ngỏ lời mời bà Nguyễn Thị Lệ ,người vợ của liệt sĩ Huỳnh Văn Quên ra Hà Nội viếng Lăng Bác, tôi sẽ không bao giờ quên được ánh mắt của bà. Chỉ hai tiếng “viếng Bác”, đôi mắt đã hằn dấu thời gian bỗng ánh lên một niềm vui thật khó diễn tả. Đó không phải niềm vui của một chuyến đi xa. Đó là niềm hạnh phúc của một người đã cất giữ ước nguyện ấy trong tim suốt bao nhiêu năm. Rồi bà nhìn tôi, chậm rãi nói một câu khiến tim tôi nghẹn lại “Bà chỉ mong đón được ông về… rồi bà sẽ ôm di ảnh của ông, cùng ông ra viếng Bác.”Chỉ một câu nói thôi…Mà chứa đựng cả mấy chục năm chờ đợi. Chờ một người đi rồi không trở lại. Chờ một ngày tên ông không còn nằm giữa núi rừng, mà được trở về với quê hương, với gia đình, với người vợ đã dành gần cả cuộc đời để đợi. Tôi không biết phải nói gì. Bởi làm sao một người trẻ như tôi có thể hiểu hết nỗi nhớ của một người vợ đã đợi chồng hơn nửa đời người. Có lẽ, những người đã đi qua chiến tranh, đã từng tiễn người mình yêu ra trận rồi mãi mãi không trở về, sẽ hiểu hơn ai hết giá trị của hai chữ hòa bình. Và cũng vì thế, tình cảm họ dành cho Bác Hồ, cho Tổ quốc luôn là một điều vô cùng thiêng liêng. Tôi chỉ là một người con của thế hệ hôm nay. Tôi không được sống trong những năm tháng bom rơi đạn nổ. Tôi cũng không phải chứng kiến những cuộc chia ly không có ngày đoàn tụ. Nhưng tôi hiểu rằng, cuộc sống bình yên mà mình đang có được đánh đổi bằng xương máu, bằng nước mắt và bằng cả tuổi thanh xuân của biết bao người đã ngã xuống. Vì vậy, tôi xin được lo toàn bộ chuyến đi cho bà và người thân ra Hà Nội. Không phải vì tôi có thể trả được món nợ ân tình ấy, mà bởi tôi muốn được góp một phần rất nhỏ lòng biết ơn của mình. Bà ơi! nếu hôm ấy bà yếu, không thể bước hết quãng đường vào Lăng Bác… Con sẽ cõng bà, bà nhé? Đó sẽ là một niềm vinh dự của con. Bởi trên lưng con khi ấy không chỉ là một người mẹ, một người bà…Mà là người phụ nữ đã dành cả tuổi xuân để yêu một người lính. Dành gần cả cuộc đời để chờ một người liệt sĩ trở về. Và vẫn đau đáu một ước nguyện rất giản dị . Được ôm di ảnh của chồng, đứng trước Lăng Bác, như thể hai vợ chồng lại được cùng nhau đi hết một chặng đường còn dang dở.
