It’s like the wind knew what I was singing the day I shot with Western AF. Tucked away in the woods on Mike LoPinto’s ranch, we started filming. It had been a dream of mine to do a video with Western AF. I first spoke that dream out loud a year ago to Mike LoPinto, and I couldn’t believe that dream had become a tangible moment in time. I chose to sing my song The Show because it’s story is autobiographical. Inspired by the murder of crows that moved into my backyard, this song is an anthem that turns pain into power — a song to show that underdogs, such as myself, can be filled with unassuming grit, and a declaration that quiet strength can be the most dangerous kind. With Mike LoPinto on banjo and Mike Vanata behind the camera, I felt supported and was given permission to be honest with them. I let them know how nervous I was, since this was such a big dream for me to finally achieve. I worried I couldn’t do my words and song justice. We had agreed this would be our last take — and what would be, would be. As I began to sing the song for the very last time, I think the wind heard me, breezing around us to remind me that I have a power that may not always be seen but can always be felt, as long as I let it be. And with that, here is a video that means so very much to me. It’s a video I once thought I’d never be brave enough to do, because of how knocked down life had left me.
