Never had a problem doing 4 to 5 pounds a day with good feed and hay starting with a 600 pound steer. But you're right. It ain't cheap. lol

Pushing right to 4 is difficult. Sometimes you can break it, sometimes you go under, but it’s difficult in 100 days. It certainly can be done in 150 days. It’s not as expensive as you think if you make your own feed/ supplements

Differences between 100-150 days tho is 2.66-4, 5 weights is harder if they where 6-7 I don’t see the issue but I’m basing that off a barn and tmr ration

that's 2.66 lb per day gain. over winter could be a challenge. depends a lot on the critter. really tough on grass.

Especially in our 40 degree rain all winter. 4lb/day would be incredibly difficult.

Hypothetically, if I fed the cows on top of a hill (small) and the water at the bottom of the hill increased the feed woul they gain weight (fat, muscle) quicker. Just a thought. Would you share your thoughts on this

Cool temps actually help in that scenario because the amount of corn needed will “heat” them up internally. 3.65 a day is about as hard as I want to go and that’s pushing it.

I took a pair of Holstein heifers from 550 each to 980 each in 156 days beginning March 9th on 5-8 pounds of 15% a day, but it was spring and most of the time they were knee deep in clover.
