@justinthetrees: Roots are neat and so are mycorrhizal fungi! Extremely neat! Also just keep repeating “we do not live in a zero sum world” every day if you can. As Robin Wall Kimmerer says, all flourishing is mutual! #trees #woodworking #wood #nature
that first root picture is why people get so comfortable planting them right next to their houses 😅

That second root pic is why trees are so important for erosion. I live next to a river and a neighbor down river cut down their bank trees to improve their view. Take a guess what happened to them and their down river neighbors during the next big storm?

When a dogwood tree seed gets planted, is it a puppywood tree?

Look cool as hell with a big clear crystal ball sitting in it so it magnifies the features of the wood depending where you look from

Braiding Sweet Grass by Robin Wall Kimmerer might also be right up your alley! She writes extensively and beautifully about the reciprocity of nature through an Indigenous lens! One of the most beautiful books I’ve read!

I wanna point out that the concept of a mother tree isnt universally accepted by scientists. it's pretty split down the middle. source: am scientist who works with dendrologists

I think that’s why people get so scared in forests. They’re sensing life they refuse to acknowledge or they don’t know they should acknowledge.

You should read The Overstory by Richard Powers!! It’s a novel following a few different people and it revolves around trees. It was amazing I couldn’t put it down!

god, trees are so fascinating. certain trees that giraffes eat send chemical signals to nearby trees of danger, causing them to produce a chemical that makes the leaves taste bad. giraffes might have to travel miles before finding a tree that didnt get the signal.
