But Chicago has alleys so our rats were always out of sight/out of mind, unlike San Fran and NYC where you practically trip over cat-size rats every five feet.

Yea Chicagoan here, im unclear why Chicago is even #2 born & raised here & Ive hade maybe 4 apartments over the last 20yrs & 2 places had mice issues which were resolved before I moved , Ive never seen rats at all

I've barely seen any rats in Chicago but the first night I walked through DC with my mom on our way back to our hotel THERE WERE LIKE FIVE RATS WE SAW JUST DARTING ALONG THE SIDEWALK
