Biggest thing I tell people who come to open houses for my program, CCRN and ACLS don’t set you apart, everyone else here has it. Get extra certs, leadership, UBC, get involved in CRNA advocacy, go to a AANA conference, etc.

I’ve seen so many people get in because they show up to conferences, open houses, and anything else that gets them actual face time with program directors and faculty. Trust me, networking is still the #1 way. Put yourself out there.

I’m also worried about this, my background is EMS. I’m currently a 911 medic getting my CCP flight cert, BSN in tandem. My plan is to get my CCRN before finishing my bachelors. Is EMS field experience something that is taken seriously in CRNA applications or am I better off going full time to the ICU as an RN as soon as possible? My passion is for emergency medicine critical care so I would like to remain in that field for as long as possible. Thanks!

Do some mock interviews look up some questions online and fine-tune your answers. I found that people who seem timid or unsure in their answers aren’t quite as successful. They can be great candidates on paper, but if you can’t carry yourself, well speak openly honestly and clearly you put yourself out of the running.
