@curtisagardner: Being a technician is an extremely rewarding profession, If you know what you’re doing and have a positive mindset. There are always negatives in every situation, but what we fail to see is the abundance of positives in being an automotive technician. Buy the “tech shortage” dip… get in now, invest into yourself and your skills to grow into a better person and tech tomorrow. #technicianshortage #automotivetechnician #automotive #mechaniclife #shoplife

the biggest problem in trades is what's referred to as "lifestyle creep". this dangerous habit of spending 100% of your disposable income. and techs are by far the worst trade with this issue, followed closely by oilfield workers and construction workers

I was a Lexus master tech for 15 years, I got out of the industry completely 3 years ago. I’m glad to see people trying to revive it but man there is absolutely no way in hell I would go back. I watch the industry self destruct my whole career. The only positive thing I can say is that it taught me how to be resilient and work thru complex issues, which helped me succeed in my current job. I make almost 40% more now than I did my last year in the industry with twice the PTO and way better benefits.

Sometimes I think this guy is being groomed by the current management to talk us all into its “all our fault”. If not, he definitely drank their kool aid

I hear you, but is not the techs that need to change their mindset. Open your eyes there are great tech out there, but dealer owners are greedy AF and the more you Wagies give them the more they will take and drain you out and drop you when you aren’t making them money that’s jus the reality. I love working on cars but if an opportunity comes across to shift careers I would be open to use all of my skills acquired over the years.

I agree with your feeling of how you feel about the trade. I've been at this for 25 years. In the 25 years, I have felt like this trade has given its major challenges and yet the the equal effect of gratification. Do I see and feel the flaws.....yes. Do I feel that I want more? Yes..... I personally love the feeling of "Hey,let's dive into this job and see what some team engineers thoughts were in what they thought was a good idea lol. At the end of the day I feel good about what I have applied my efforts towards and what a room of engineers have put together, factory have assembled, and we have to do to make the correct repair to ensure the repair was made correctly. That challenge is the satisfaction of this trade for me. Keep wrenching!

I’m trying to get in but nobody is hiring. Trying to avoid school because it’s out of pocket, but it seems everybody needs formal education now

A C tech at my mid Ohio dealership makes between 64k and 72k with great benefits. B’s 85k to 95k. A’s well over 100k. All on flat rate. Yep still all kind of issues, but the pay and benefits are great

They Pimp the techs. This business is nothing like it used to be. Get in invest in yourself and get out. There is no retirement.

I had a positive mindset for years. It’s gone now. You can only get screwed over so many times and try to put it behind you As I see it, techs don’t need to change. The industry leadership needs to change. I recommend kids stay out of this field. They will regret their life decisions every day as most of us currently do
