Water soluble oil paint exists? I am now wildly curious and picturing something a bit like mayonnaise where they use an emulsifier to bind it to a water based liquid.

Linseed oil is the standard over walnut. Also you can wash your brushes with just a bar of soap and water at the end of sessions, it’s like oil in hair, the soap gets it out. Turp is a necessary evil for underpainting and speed

gamsol is the healthiest alternative to turp or paint thinner. it’s a mineral spirit and will speed up drying time of your paintings

My set up as an art student who works in oils mainly is: small tubes of yellow, blue, red, white, and black oils; baby oil, and brush cleaner!

more tips - gesso is a MUST (2 coats minimum, 3 is best) without it the oil will bleed through the paper or canvas overtime and itll go super gross. Castille soap (like Marseille soap, or olive oil soap) works REALLY well for cleaning brushes and its super cheap. If you use turpentine to paint, your painting will dry faster but it wont have the same sheen you get with oils, but also remember to keep the lid on to avoid fumes and so it doesn't evaporate

liquin is also a great medium if you want your oils to go a LOT farther on the canvas + dry significantly faster. i use liquin regularly and even my thickest applications will dry in 24-48 hours.

The mexican pink bar of soap called Jabón Zote is the best for cleaning your brushes

I love my water soluble oil paints. I have cats and even though I try to not let them in my art room, I feel better knowing that the toxins in the air are not as harmful compared to turpentine.
