In 2023, the arid region suffered one of the deadliest impacts of drought in nearly four decades. Then, recently in April and May 2025, heavy rains hit El Beso in North Horr, flooding homes and rendering roads impassable. Consequently, Oxfam and its local partner organization - Pastoralist Community Development Assistance (PACIDA) offered cash assistance to help affected communities recover from the effects of the floods.
