What also helps to keep the saw from binding in the cut is pointing your index finger. It locks your wrist straight. Aligning your wrist, elbow and shoulder with the cut helps you stay on the line and makes cutting effortless.

I'm fairly certain this explanation is what people mean when they say "let the tool do the work", which did not help me to learn when I was young, wish I had your instruction back then!
