What they failed to mention is that it more than likely was a little bit murky and reeked, probably from the dried blood and guts and animal flesh that was soaked into the sand from all those gladiator events.

I visited the colleseum last week. You can see where prisoners etched their names into the stone walls in the cells... huge privilege being able to see such a monumental part of history, however I did feel great sadness whilst within there. Countless lives of humans and animals lost for what we would call nothing less than barbaric entertainment nowadays. May history NEVER repeat itself.
