@orbis_7: Eric Stoltz was originally cast as Marty McFly in Back to the Future before Michael J. Fox. Filming actually began with Stoltz in the role in late 1984. The crew shot for about five weeks, but director Robert Zemeckis and writer Bob Gale felt that while Stoltz was talented, his interpretation was too serious and dramatic, and the film was meant to have a lighter, comedic tone. Because of this, the studio made the expensive and risky decision to replace Stoltz mid-production with Michael J. Fox, who had been the filmmakers’ first choice but was initially unavailable due to his TV schedule (Family Ties). Fox ended up shooting the film mostly at night while still working on his sitcom during the day. Some footage of Stoltz still survives but officially, he is uncredited in the movie. #fyp #viral #edit
