@the.crow.girl: 🚨AVIAN INFLUENZA🚨 Avian flu has resurfaced in the UK. As of right now, unless you are in a protection or surveillance zone, it is just those with over 50 birds who need to house their birds. However this is likely to change. Signs of Bird Flu in Wild Birds: • Swollen head • Watery or closed eyes • Unresponsiveness • Loss of balance, tremors, or lack of coordination • Drooping wings or dragging legs • Twisted head or neck • Bleeding on legs or neck • Respiratory distress (sneezing, gurgling) • Discolored or watery droppings *please note some birds may be asymptomatic What to do if you find a bird showing any of the above signs: • Do NOT touch the bird. • Contact DEFRA at 0300 200 301 for advice. If you keep birds, check the DEFRA Avian Influenza Map regularly to stay updated on affected areas. If you are in a restricted zone, you must follow the mandatory guidelines on the government website to protect your flock and prevent the spread of disease. It’s a shame, this happens without fail every year. It’s a large part of the reason why we stay closed during the winter and only open in the spring and summer when the risks are minimal. We just can’t risk our resident birds health. Nor get closed down by DEFRA.
