Halloween is an ancient Scottish and Irish festival actually. I've tried to explain it here but keep getting deleted. The UK is not England. We have different cultures in Scotland. Again, look it up. We have guising and parties (for children only).

we are told at a young age, don't take sweets from strangers or they may throw you in their car. Soo I feel this wouldn't vibe in the UK.

Never say UK or Britain when you mean England. Halloween, best referred to as Oidhche Shamhna, is an ancient Scottish and Irish festival actually. We dress up as something scary (it MUST be scary) to disguise ourselves from the spirts that come out that night when this world and the spirit world collide. When we go door to door guising (in disguise) we must have a "piece", a song, poem, dance etc before getting something in return. We have none of this trick or treat nonsense. We also have parties with dooking for apples, eating treacle toast hanging from a string with our hands tied behind our backs and other fun. When I say "we" I mean the children. No adults.

Yeah, never say UK or Britain when you actually mean England. Halloween, better referred to as Oidhche Shamhna, is an ancient Scottish and Irish festival where we dress up as something scary to disguise ourselves from the spirits that come out when this world and the spirit world collide. It has to be a scary costume. You also have to have a piece (song, poem, dance etc) to get anything when you go door to door guising (none of this trick or treat sh! te).

Guising as it was originally called was invented in Scotland as part of the Celtic festival of Samhain. Kids dressed as ghouls to trick the spirits and carried candles in turnips for protection. Scottish immigrants then took this tradition to America who changed the turnip to a pumpkin.
