@iwishiwastheredude: Her’s were an indie rock duo from Liverpool, England, made up of Stephen Fitzpatrick (vocals, guitar) and Audun Laading (bass, backing vocals). They met while studying at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and quickly gained attention for their dreamy, lo-fi sound blending surf rock, pop, and post-punk influences. Their breakout moment came with the viral success of their 2017 song “What Once Was.” Its jangly guitars, nostalgic tone, and heartfelt lyrics resonated widely online, earning them a growing fanbase on streaming platforms and YouTube. The track became a cult favorite in the indie scene, often used in fan edits and short films for its wistful, melancholic vibe. Tragically, on March 27, 2019, while touring the U.S., both members of Her’s and their tour manager Trevor Engelbrektson were killed in a car accident in Arizona. They were driving from Phoenix to Santa Ana for a show when a wrong-way driver collided with their van. Their deaths shocked fans and fellow musicians alike — the duo had been seen as one of indie rock’s most promising new acts.
