On the night of April 24, 2008, the community of Bloomingdale, Florida, was in shock after the att@ck on 18-year-old Queena Phu. She had gone to the Bloomingdale Regional Library to return some books when she was surprised by Kendrick Morris, a 16-year-old teenager who followed her, r@p€d and b€@t her, leaving her unc0nsc!0us, bl!nd and p@r@lyz€d. Queena resided with her family in Hillsborough County, Florida. She was a brilliant student, and the program mentioned that the teenager was always at the top of her class. In addition, Queena was about to graduate from high school soon after the incident and had great aspirations for the future. On the day of the att@ck, although Queena fought bravely and tried to break free from her att@cker's clutches, Kendrick proved to be too strong and soon overpowered the young woman. Subsequently, she was mercilessly r@p€d and b€@ten before Kendrick left her lying behind the library building. Queena's family became concerned when she didn't return home, and large search parties went to the Bloomingdale library, as this was the victim's last known location. Upon arriving at the scene, people noticed Queena's car with the front door open and a significant amount of blo0d accumulating on the road. Although the victim's cell phone was on the ground, she was nowhere to be found. Eventually, Queena was found lying behind the library building, completely p@r@lyz£d, bl!nd, and unc0nsc!ous. However, she was still breathing and was immediately transferred to a local hospital for medical treatment. The hospital diagnosed her with brain tr@uma and mentioned that the att@ck had taken away her ability to walk. Although the initial investigation proved challenging without witnesses, the police managed to extract a foreign DNA sample from Queena's body, which surprisingly matched a DNA sample from an unrelated r@p£ case that occurred about ten months earlier. The DNA evidence from both cases led the police directly to Kendrick Morris, who was arrested and charged for his involvement in the crimes. When first presented in court, the jury found Kendrick guilty on a multitude of charges, including k!dn@pp!ng, s€xu@l @ss@ult, aggravated @ss@ult, r0bb€ry, and @rm€d r0bb€ry, among others. As a result, he was sentenced to a total of 65 years in 2011. Because he was a minor at the time of the crime, the defense requested a reassessment based on a U.S. Supreme Court decision that automatically prohibited life imprisonment without the possibility of review for juveniles. The judge reassessed the sentence, increasing the penalty to four life sentences, one for each major charge. The brut@l and vi0lent att@ck left Queena with lifelong injuries and confined her to a wheelchair for life. Reports from 2020 mentioned that, although Queena was fighting for her recovery, she still could not walk, see, speak, or eat and needed someone to care for her at all times.
