@herhiddentape: 🎞️ Blacksmithing Scene (1893): Directed by W.K.L. Dickson and filmed by William Heise inside Edison’s new New Jersey studio. Produced for the Edison Manufacturing Company, it captures three “blacksmiths” (actually Edison employees) forging metal, pausing for beer, and unknowingly forging film history. Exhibited to the public on May 9, 1893, through Edison’s new Kinetoscope, the short stunned audiences who described it as “living subjects portrayed in a manner to excite wonderment.” Though staged, it represents one of cinema’s earliest performances; an industrial experiment that became an art form. Its 35mm format, with four vertical sprockets per frame, became the foundation for every modern motion picture that followed. 🎥 Music: Martin Marks’ gruff rendition of Verdi’s Anvil Chorus 🏛 Preserved by the Museum of Modern Art, sourced from a nitrate print at the Henry Ford Museum. #filmhistory #silentfilm #edison #fyp #foryoupage

This is for educational and historical purposes. 🎞️Studying old films helps us understand how media shaped culture. It doesn’t mean this film includes negative themes; it’s just context.

Love the beer break. Drinking beer at working class labor was very common throughout the 19th century - ususally weak beer.
