@dariusryankadem: Punishment doesn’t teach discipline, it teaches submission. The issue isn’t the presence of discomfort, but the absence of connection. In punishment, the discomfort is arbitrary, imposed to control behaviour rather than to build understanding. Logical and natural consequences also involve discomfort, but it’s meaningful, directly linked to the behaviour itself. The intention is not to make the child suffer, but to help them see cause and effect, integrating emotion with reasoning. These experiences are meaningful because they engage the child’s developing capacity for cause and effect. It's about strengthening understanding, not compliance, growth, not guilt, reflection and accountability not avoidance, qualities punishment cannot build, because it suppresses behaviour instead of developing understanding.
