Real question- where are you supposed to take her for potty then? Train on puppy pads, which trains them to potty in the house? Isn’t that counter productive??

I've worked at a vet for 20 years. Your vet was being a little dramatic. Dog parks scare me because a lot of unvaccinated dogs go to them. it's ridiculous to tell and owner that a puppy can't go outside until fully vaccinated. You're good. Giardia is common and puppies have no immune system. don't beat yourself up

former vet assistant: giardia is so common and lives in the ground, yes puppies are more susceptible to it but any dog can still get it! don’t beat yourself up morgan, you’re being an amazing dog momma❤

Living in an apartment it’s very impossible to avoid taking ur dog outside where other dogs are. Having a puppy is going to stress you tf outttt. You can take ur puppy outside just don’t let milli explore!! Outside to potty then play inside. You can take them out places too it’s really good for them just don’t let them on the ground. So hold them or stroller!

You’re a good mommy having a puppy is really hard and honestly it almost feels like we shouldn’t have the puppies until they’re able to touch grass like what is the point how do you even potty train them if they are going to potty indoors?

I taught my puppy to potty outside before he was fully vaccinated. Stay away from high traffic areas especially dog parks and she’ll be ok. If you wait for all her vaccines she’s never going to learn to potty outside before. Also quick side note I’m a vet tech and puppies usually come to you with Giardia. It’s so easy for them to get at the breeding facility’s. My pup had it too she’ll be ok :)

Nah man I dunno. I wouldn’t have known any of that, and I wouldn’t have “researched” like most people assume you should do. I’d have made the same mistake. I learn the hard way like a normal person. Doctor sounded a bit snobby.

Dog parks carry so many viruses and bacteria it’s best to always avoid those and super common areas. It’s definitely hard potty training a puppy in a city since there’s not many spots that other dogs don’t go to. I’d recommend getting the fake turf that she can potty on until she’s fully vaxxed. You pup can go out in public but it’s best to avoid her being on the ground

PSSSSST!!! Hey girl, former major city er vet tech here--- i hope he wasnt mean like that.. you can bring giardia in on your shoes.. your other dog could get it from the park too or just track it in.. it's definitely not your fault or something you likely would have avoided. You don't *have* to puppy pad your dog inside, you're doing great. Puppy pads aren't necessary, just choose one spot in the grass that fewerrrrr dogs go on. And until they are clear of giardia, use the puppy pads or turf pads outside! they'll be fine if you take them out, especially if they are parvo vaxed and you don't miss them or stretch time between vaccines. there are lots of people who have no choice but to use a community yard whos puppies are FINE, they just have to be careful. wipe paws, dont let them eat stuff or play with the toys left behind.. I'm so so soooo sorry he made you feel so bad. Plz don't use puppy pads inside your apartment when shes not having accidents 😭 ❤❤❤❤

Giardia is passable to humans and other dogs as well. So be careful. Give her plenty of fluids and doggie probiotics- we get them on chewy through purina. You’re not a bad doggie mom. Giardia is actually pretty common and dogs will come out of it easily with the medication.
