@bluesquarealliance: Pope Leo XIV condemned antisemitism on the 60th anniversary of the historic Nostra Aetate declaration — which forever changed Catholic-Jewish relations. Section four of Nostra Aetate rejects the centuries-old “deicide” charge against all Jews (blaming them for the death of Jesus Christ) and stresses the religious bond shared by Jews and Catholics. Part of Pope Leo XIV commemoration also included a speech to the general audience at the Vatican. In front of thousands of inter-faith spectators, the Pope said: “All my predecessors have condemned anti-Semitism with clear words,” adding, “I too confirm that the Church does not tolerate anti-Semitism and fights against it, on the basis of the Gospel itself.” Earlier this year we hosted Stand Up Sunday, bringing together hundreds of thousands of members of churches, synagogues, and places of worship together using faith to fight hate. Been waiting for him to come out with a positive statement between Catholicism and Judaism . All we have heard from him has been his criticisms of 🇮🇱 for its proactive approach to protecting its citizenry and lands and its defense vs. Hamas. Pope needs to equally condemn Christians who are encouraging antisemitism with tropes that have been used for centuries designed to cause harm to the Jewish people.
