Anything that tells me a food is "bad" won't ever receive my attention. The only "bad" foods are foods that have gotten moldy or rotten. All other foods have no moral value and can fit into a well-rounded diet.

I used Yukon for all of three hours until gave a poor score to rice baby cereal. The reasoning? It’s too high in calories. BABY CEREAL. It’s supposed to be higher in calories.

I downloaded it a couple years ago. Went to Aldi and everything I mean everything I scanned it said was bad. I deleted while I was still in the store

One thing I recently noticed with this app is that some of the information, etc amount of calories, is incorrect from that of the food label. So, it makes me question, how often do they update the information on their app?

Okay, I'm glad this is being talked about. The IDEA of the app is great but in practice, it fuels confusion, misinformation, and pseudo-science.

I also question it at times. I use it as a guide. I more now use it looking for the additives. Not for calories or sugar. I can decide that myself. I loved it at first. But find it less reliable. They should have a setting where you can set it to your needs.

Honestly I only look at the additives when I use this app. That's how I judge what I'll buy.

As someone who’s worked in cosmetics, we have a similar app people scan for products and it’s pretty well known that brands will actually pay for a higher rating 😬

if u completely try and avoid things and start obsessing over ingredients, u have a chance of developing orthorexia (i struggled with it because i wanted to only eat "clean” foods so i was scanning ingredients in everything, also struggling to gain weight and it made me feel worse). i have recovered now and eat whatever i want, best decision i ever made so please don’t restrict yourself <3

I can’t stand this app. I work at a Whole Foods store and the amount of people who scan every individual item while shopping instead of learning about ingredients and the nuances in food is alarming. I’ve had people act soooo rude towards me because “almost every item you carry doesn’t have a good score on yuka and you’re lying to people”. Technology isn’t needed for everything. You can do some research and learn how to read a damn label.

Is there information about the funding into the R&D for the app and scoring? It’s interesting that large brands are ranked higher in these examples.

I usually click on why it’s rated badly, if it’s because of fat or calorie content I ignore it, I only pay attention to the harmful additives because I have hashimotos
