3 feet wouldn’t matter in your case since you were above the window as long as you’re drip loop is above the window distance doesn’t matter. It’s only talks about if you are to the left or right on the window. So your Gucci even if your drip loop was 2 inches above the window.

I’ve heard that the 3’ rule came about because a group of collage students had a dare you had to lean out the window and hold the service loop in your mouth and it went bad once
