When I was in kindergarten, they would punish me for doing the right thing and praise me for doing the wrong thing. Kindergarten was not a good place for me.

as someone who works with tons of people I can confirm that no one has forgotten the skills they learned in kindergarten and you just have to talk with correct cadence to bring it out of them. It’s also helpful to remember that in emergencies most people don’t learn how to regulate themselves beyond the skill set that they learned in second grade.
