As a Canadian, I absolutely agree. We’re so fortunate and people absolutely forget about the privilege we have here.

One of the few beneficial things of the British Empire was the parliamentary government system.

You just explained why I like minority governments. The party in power has to work with the other parties to get their budget passed instead of just ramming it through.

I do. It terrifies me that provincial governments are trying to roll back our protective regulations and laws across the country. They are so focused on economic growth, we’re being sidelined for capitalism. They do not learn from global examples.

An election would be great for the liberals, they will get a full majority.

I have a feeling the cons will try to force an election no matter what the budget is

Absolutely, it’s a much better system. I have faith in our PM’s ability to collaborate to avoid our need to head into an election.

I was just talking to my husband about this. Canadian system is actually a truer democracy than the US because of this too. The politicians are forced to work with each other to keep themselves in power instead of throwing their hands up and shutting down the government.

Liberals want a majority. So don’t care if they trigger an election

It only happens when Republicans control the House. They are incapable of doing a full year budget so we have these stupid continuing resolution

The downside of our system is definitely first past the post. Ontario has a supermajority conservative government and the opposition can do pretty much nothing but yell while terrible legislation is passed. Now DoFo wants to be able to call elections whenever it is convenient to him and that legislation will probably pass too.

Well …. Calling up the CRA is a bit of a stretch. I mean yeah, one can call but - good luck getting a human at the CRA to answer the phone. 🤔😂

What’s even sillier is this isn’t even part of the system. The DoJ arbitrarily said this was the law in the 80s and literally nobody’s challenged it since.
