not true, my family owns prime real estate in nanjing china it was even in movies. the govment wanted the land for development and we into negotiations the gov offering to give an apartment to every sibling totaling seven and 200k usd to every sibling also.. no one was forced.

My fiancée is Chinese. As I understand from her. There is no true property ownership in China. At 75 years, yes a long time, but that is the maximum amount of time property can be held. So 2, maybe 3 generations max. You can re-purchase, but it's really only a long term rental.

Tough one. my friends brother in VN was asked by the government to redo schools and such and they would pay him for everything. He did all the work think I was told he put 500k of his money from his construction business. Now they won't pay him back. Some pros and cons to each.

I guess the property your uncle had was neither a tradable/commercial property nor a farmerland. Which means he didn’t really pay for the property, and it’s a gov allocat housing. Otherwise, gov will need to compensate and get his signature claim the land.

They’re trying to do something similar in the US. The gov. is trying to give corporations eminent domain to take farmland to build data centers (that no one wants) 🙃

Counter anecdotes. I have extended families that lived in rural China. Government took their literal shacks (no indoor plumbing or water) and moved them to high rises or town homes. In most cases, government either moves you to a comparable location with a similar size home or further out but a much bigger home. This is on top of the fact that if you got your home around the time of the communist revolution, you got it as a perk of having a job. Didn’t pay a cent

Sounds weird. Government confiscation arbitrage was a thing in China. Where professionals would buy properties they think the government will take and in return they will get more money than they paid. That must have been years ago when it wasn’t worth much. At least the past two decades people seem to be well compensated.

I lived in China for ten years for work, I left in 2019 as everyone was getting locked down as COVID was spreading. As nice as it seems, I’m glad I’m back in the U.S.
