if you're not keen on eating a ton of apples, let's not forget that apple sauce can be used as a substitute for oil or eggs in baked goods. its a good backup to have.

Also, y’all, food that is going out of date isn’t bad. Buy that marked down meat and freeze it. Buy those veggies, cut out the bad parts and dice/slice/chop them and freeze them. Or can them or whatever way you prefer to save food.

another hot compassionate tip... banana bread .. make a double batch.... give one away Apple bread zucchini bread cranberry make 2 give one away... most of the time it wont cost you more than $1.50 to make an additional loaf for someone...

My local farm stand has a table where they put bags full of “ugly” fruits and veggies. Each bag is $1. Usually stuff just has a bruise or a bad spot that can be cut off. I stock up when I see stuff there, stick it in the freezer, and use a lot of it for canning.

Also, a little more expensive, but check out local farms and orchards in your area. A lot of times they sell stuff in bulk. Lots of veggies still on those stands. Good discounts this time of year! And orchards will sell “2nds” of their fruit. They may not be pretty but they are just as tasty! Apples store really well in the fridge too! And check out your “gleaning” laws too! Many local farms will let you glean for free. You just have to put in the work. Thank you for doing all you can to put food in people’s hands. Blessings to you and your family!💚

as someone that had more potatoes, apples, and ramen packets taken for trial or treat. I'm so furious and heartbroken that the kids would rather had food then candy. no one should be going hungry here

This is VERY good advice. Wish more people took advantage. I always get discounted fruit/veg that isn't pretty and make meals/dessert. You aren't angry THATS PASSION. Keep up the good work 👏

I’ve never truly felt that hunger pain… maybe when I was off with Dad and he didn’t consider how hungry kids get, but we were well fed; however, I was secondarily raised by a grandparent who went through The Great Depression and their household and our household did not waste much at all. I still do my best to recycle what I can and am working on composting in town… my grandma put everything in a bucket and gave it to her chickens. When we had pigs, my step-son took everything to them.
